Speaking Nigerian: where our translations stand, honestly

The apps carry Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa today. Here is exactly how good they are, and what we are doing about the gaps.

Nigeria speaks over 500 languages. Three of them - Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa - are first languages for the majority of the people who will use SEIRS, and English is the language of business rather than the language of home.

So the SEIRS apps ship with Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa built in. Open any of the three apps, go to Language, pick yours, and the interface changes: booking a delivery, checking earnings.

Now the honest part, because we would rather tell you than have you discover it.

Our translations are not finished

The current Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa text was machine-assisted, not written by native speakers. It covers most of each app, and a small number of screens still fall back to English where a phrase has not been translated yet.

That is not good enough as a final state, and we know exactly where the weak points are. Tone marks in Yoruba are inconsistent in places. Hausa loanwords for technical words like "wallet" may not match how people actually speak. Igbo has real dialect variation, and we defaulted to what reads most widely rather than making a considered choice.

What we are doing about it

Before we call any language complete, a native speaker reviews it end to end: the money screens first, because a confusing word next to a naira amount costs someone trust, then the booking flow, then everything else. Short command words on buttons get special attention: "Send", "Confirm", "Cancel" need to feel like instructions, not dictionary entries.

If you speak one of these languages well and something reads wrong inside the app, tell us. Contact support from any SEIRS app, say which screen and what it should say, and it goes straight to the person maintaining that language file. Corrections ship in the next update, and they are credited in our changelog.

What about this website?

This site is in English. Your browser will translate it into Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa or any other language it supports, and that translation is genuinely decent for reading. We would rather point you to a tool that works today than pretend we have translated every marketing page ourselves.

The apps are where the translation work matters most, because that is where you handle your money and your packages. That is where our effort goes first.

SEIRS is a Nigerian delivery platform: from a bicycle to a truck, booked in an app, followed live, and handed over with a code. See how it works.
